Dean Smith

Eli Ridgway Gallery presented the work of Dean Smith at EXPO Chicago — a focused selection of the Oakland-born artist's meditative, process-based abstract drawings and collages on paper. Across each series, Smith builds his images through the careful, determined repetition of innumerable small marks, rendering the invisible visible and inviting a slow, rich meditation on an idea as it unfolds.

The presentation gathered works from several of Smith's ongoing bodies of work: the graphite Environments collages, assembled from fragments of nineteenth-century engraved illustrations; the Diamond Net and DSL (labyrinth) drawings; the radiating graphite Focusing drawings; and the crystalline Thought form drawings.
