Dub Articulation, 2006
Installation, two 16mm film projectors, two turntables, two dub records, two photograms, sound
3 x 20 x 30 feet

Description: Camera-less film installation with 16mm film projector sound installation with turntables, double projection, positive/negative, black/white, photogram film loops. Projectors pull 16mm film loops that activate turntable platter. The turntables play the same dub LP record, one is played forward (positive) and the other reverse (negative). The records are played at 24 FPS and are mixed together to create a sound track for the film. The films are projected side by side and project the image of the photogram films of the turntable platters. Duration is ongoing.

Artist’s Concept: From dub to Deleuze. The re-territorialization of similar and familiar. These visual and audible dualities of everyday life work together to form one synchronous soundtrack of positives versus negatives. These projection areas are next to each other, side by side forcing the viewer to choose one projection to be viewed, or to view both as one. The records form another experience, one that challenges the viewer to imagine sound rather than listen to it.

Variations: Installation / Single-Channel Video / Single-Channel Films / Archival Inkjet Prints / Mixed Media film on wood
