Eli Ridgway is pleased to present an exhibition of intertwined sound/film installation, video projection, photograms, gelatin silver photographs, sculpture and digital prints by Mauricio Ancalmo. The artist's practice regularly includes the reuse of discarded objects such as sewing machines, word processors, 16mm film projectors and turntables along with re-appropriated ephemera and output of his own past installations.

Mauricio Ancalmo is currently included in SFMOMA's SECA Award Exhibition. Established to recognize Bay Area artists of exceptional promise and talent with an exhibition, accompanying catalogue, and cash prize, the biennial award is administered by the Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art, an SFMOMA art interest group celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011. The exhibition will be open through March, 2012.

Ancalmo has been included in recent exhibitions including Bay Area Now 6 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Reconsidered Materials at the Exploratorium, and numerous film and music festivals. He has been the recipient of the Eureka Fellowship from the Fleishhacker Foundation, the SFMOMA SECA Award, the James Irvine Foundation Award and a residency at the SF Exploratorium.
