KIRK MAXSON: LANDSCAPE
October 8 - December 23, 2011

Eli Ridgway Gallery is pleased to present a new Hallway Project installation by Bay Area artist Kirk Maxson. Landscape is a collection of photographs of landscapes from forty years of coffee table books published between 1970 to 2010 featuring images of Africa, Alaska, the Midwest, Canada, Switzerland, the Middle East and Mexico. The artist cut these book pages into varying sizes of paper butterflies which he then pinned to the hallway walls loosely reconstituting their original scenes of nature. Mountains bend back and forth and have new relationships to each other while bits of blue sky appear where they should not be and Africa and the Midwest are mingled together.
