Crocker Art Museum
We are pleased to announce that the Crocker Art Museum has acquired Amy Ellingson's painting, Variation/Mutation (cascade), 2008. The museum writes of the painting, "Amy Ellingson expands the vocabulary of geometric abstraction with her variations. Designs are first realized on the computer starting with simple ovals she dissects and transforms through fragmentation and replication. Once a sketch is completed, her working methods are entirely traditional. Using enlarged, hand-cut paper patterns, she translates the small sketch, shape-by-shape and in alternating layers of hot wax and oil paint into full-sized painting on panel."
